Mediation And Litigation In Divorce

Most Colorado courts require divorcing couples to try to resolve their issues through mediation before they can have a trial. Mediation is a form of negotiation with the help of a neutral third party - the mediator. Mediation can be quicker and less expensive than going to trial, and it may help you and your spouse to co-operate for the rest of the children's lives.

Sometimes, parents can't reach an agreement; some issues just can't get resolved. In these circumstances, you will have to go to Court, and the Judge will decide for you.

Our attorney has experience in resolving marital issues, both in the courts and in settlement negotiations. He has served as a mediator, and as an attorney for other clients going through mediation. Pete cannot be your attorney and your mediator; ethically he can serve as one or the other, but not both. Pete always prepares and is ready to go to trial if agreement cannot be reached. Usually, the parties can come to a better, more long lasting agreement than what a Court might order. Settlement by mutual agreement is almost always better than going to Court.
